The Law : Whats at risk

'THE LAW, YOU, STAFF AND YOUR CUSTOMERS'

The law is enforced by a wide range of officials - in the case of hygiene these are inspectors from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) or, more usually, Environmental Health Officers employed by the Local Authority.

They are there to advise you on the best ways to comply with legislation and are always willing to give you help.

However, because hygiene is such an important issue, the penalties for breaking the law are high and you could find yourself in Court.

And do not underestimate the impact a dirty and mismanaged washroom has on your staff and customers who will judge your organisation's attitudes to quality and care by what they find.

Recent research shows that nine out of ten complaints about pubs alone are about cleanliness, and the state of your washrooms reflects on the rest of your operation, including the kitchens.

Health, image, reputation, revenue and even personal liberty are at risk - so there is a great deal to be gained by taking washroom laws seriously, and a great deal to be lost if you don't.

Let's examine those laws.
