APPENDIX A

What is happening?

Certain industries already have their own detailed legislation and regulations. Rather than replace these the Government has decided to keep them (sometimes with very minor amendments) and to apply the new PPE Regulations in addition.

Among these industries are mining, construction, shipping and electricity.

If you are part of one of these industries you should obtain copies of the relevant regulations to ensure that you comply. The onus to do so is on you - the employer.

In addition, certain other regulations (marked* in the list below) also remain in force, but have been altered to take account of the PPE Regulations. The changes are for the most part straightforward - for example, requiring breathing apparatus to be 'suitable' instead
of 'approved'.
