Who is responsible for PPE?
 

 

 

The PPE Regulations, combined with The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1992 (MHSWR), mean that most people in the workplace have some responsibility for meeting
PPE requirements.

However, the main obligation is on you, the employer, to demonstrate that you have taken all reasonably practicable steps to protect employees and visitors from risks to their health and safety.

Complying with the law is often a question of common sense. It is the sheer number of obligations and responsibilities which may confuse you. In summary, these are as follows:


Employers

You have an overall duty to ensure the safety of yourself, your employees, visitors and others in your workplace, and you are obliged to provide suitable PPE whenever health and safety risks at work are not adequately controlled by other means.
